Review: Fringe “Neither Here Nor There”

With last season’s wtf cliffhanger I initially thought this would be a an epic revelation. Then I realized this was a J.J. Abrams program, and Fringe has a track record of taking their sweet time with explaining anything. I decided the not get my hopes up and once I did that. I was able to enjoy the season premier.

Even though we didn’t get a flash bang episode out of Fringe the premier set the board for what is to follow. Now that Peter never existed, both worlds are quite different. The two Fringe divisions are able to collaborate via a dimensional bridge, and neither side seems to trust the other. Most notably Olivia and Walter are considerably more misserable. Olivia is painfully lonely and Walter is too scared to leave the lab. Lincoln Lee from our side gets inducted into our fringe division when investigating transparent shape shifters. Unlike the previous generation of shape shifters these ones are more human. Though Fringe Division suspects that they come from the other side. Though I think they may be from closer to home. Before Peter was erased Massive Dynamic seemed to be good guys. They were working with our heroes to save the world. Before that story arc they were very sinister. It is possible that we’re dealing with an enemy of my enemy is my friend scenario. Now that there is an uneasy truce, Massive Dyanamic might be free to pursue their own shifty goals. The most intriguing elements of this episode was the Observers reluctance to fully delete Peter from history. We’ve seen another Observer have similar motives. This Observer watched a girl grow up and came to love her paternally. Although he was supposed to kill her to balance history he wouldn’t  let anything happen to her. Maybe our Observer feels the same about Peter. When he comes back, it should be interesting.

On a Scale of 1 to Epic (Epic = 10) This Fringe gets a 7.4. Now lets see.

On a Scale of 1 to Epic (Epic = 10): ★★★★★★★½☆☆
