Review: Fringe “Anomaly XB-6783746”

Fringe-logo

With only three episodes left Fringe really hit a high note in “Anomaly XB-6783746“. Continuing with the story arch of Walter losing himself to his his old persona, The Fringe team tries to communicate with the child observer. Reaching an impasse they calls for a favor from Nina Sharp.  Captain Windmark and his fellow Observers are hot on their heels.

Without spoiling too much of the episode Blair Brown as Nina Sharp stole the show. Since Fringe began there was always a sinister air about Nina. She always knew too much. Under her helm Massive Dynamic seemed to be behind all of the various fringe events of the series. Episodes like “Of Human Action” had Massive Dynamic experimenting with cloning and mind control on children. For the first two seasons I would have guessed that Nina would become the ultimate villain of the show. Anomaly XB-6783746 takes her story to its conclusion 180 degrees from where she started. During an interrogation by the Observers they seemed more intimidated of Nina than the other way around. It was a very heroic moment for the character.

We saw more of the original Walter in this episode than we ever saw of the lovable goofball who’s starred in the majority of the series. It’s a credit to John Noble that we can tell which version of the character he is simply by the way he’s standing. I wonder if the revelations of this episode will help keep Walter from becoming his old self.

This was a great cliffhanger, with gripping reveals. As Fringe’s finale nears, I’m sad to see it go. If the remaining episodes remain as high quality as this one the ending is bound to be epic.

On a Scale of 1 to Epic (Epic = 10): ★★★★★★★★★¼

Fringe gets an 9.2
