It’s a damn shame it looks like The Cape is going to get canceled, after a gem of an episode like this. Suffering from injuries incurred crime fighting, Vince decides to take a break from being The Cape to heal. At the same time Peter Flemming hires two of the greatest assassins from the Tarot organization to hunt down and kill the Cape. Flemming demand they bring back his spider silk cloak as a trophy. Here we meet the eponymous Goggles and Hicks. These villains of the week were so entertaining, I’d love to see more of them.
Goggles is a wheelchair bound tech master. His brother Hicks is, as his name suggests, a gun carrying hunter. It reminded me of an evil mirror version of the Punisher/Microchip relationship. This role had the potential to be cliche but, Goggles played by Pruitt Taylor Vince, stole the show. Goggles as the evil nerd tech-savant so much personality and played the roll with such evil glee. It made me think this is what the story the deadliest game would have been like if the hunter was a dungeon master.
On the other side of the spectrum, we are treated to more family moments with the Faraday’s. Trip makes a new friend, and Dana looses one. Though I was complaining about the family scenes being too detached from the rest of the episode they’re starting to move them into line with the action. I’ve always said Dana is a public defender, and it seems like she’s an honest one. She should have more of a role trying to figure out whats going on behind Arc and her husband’s set up. No it seems like she finally has. She confronts Marty who’s been promoted to police chief, about the arrest and cover-up. Of course he plays dumb, but it sets up future danger. Hopefully he’ll target her, and The Cape will have to protect her.
Each additional episode leaves me wanting a little more, and the most interesting set up in the episode dealt with Goggles and Hicks failure. They were only able to get Flemming a strand of material from the cape. What if Flemming analyzes the spider silk and realizes how to create his own cape. It would leave our her and villain to finally have an epic, even leveled battle.
On a scale of 1 to Epic, (Epic= 10) I’d give it a 7.0
