Review: Supernatural Caged Heat

I like Supernatural. I think they’ve done a real good job incorporating dozens of different mythologies into the same universe. The fantasy elements, are portrayed in such a way that they are still fantastic, yet down to earth. As the eldest brother in my family, I also appreciate the family drama at the heart of the show.  My problem is that I always miss the show when its on. Finally I was able to catch it.

This last episode follows the Winchester brothers as they deal with demons and angels, in an attempt to get back Sam’s soul. I can’t help but feel that there is something off about this episode. Meg’s torture scene was a bit to graphic for my tastes. I know she’s a demon but women in this show suffer way too much. Implied genital mutilation causes too many cringes. Also the drama and arguments between the two brothers don’t seem to have any real significance anymore. Without a soul Sam no longer has his humanity. Why would we care if he is hurting his brother emotionally, now that he no longer feels emotions.  He’s not really Sam.

Dean has a huge argument with his grandfather, Samuel, who sells him out to the demons. Dean threatens to kill him next time he sees him. Samuel is willing to do anything to revive his daughter from death, even destroy his grandchildren. My major problem with this is how often the hunters are willing to work with demons to save someone they love. Hunters are supposed to be the people who hate and destroy demons, and the Winchester’s are supposed to be the best. If they’re the best and they keep making deals with the devil how has the world not fallen into hell yet? Nothing ever good comes of devil deals. We’ve been there seen that move on to more interesting things like…

The war in Heaven. Castiel is now fighting Raphael in Heaven for control of the universe. Things are not going well for Cass. Lets see more of this and what to two angels are involved with. Maybe for all the damage the brothers have done they can do something that would help fix the problems. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the new episodes in January.

On a scale of 1 to Epic, (Epic= 10) I’d give it a 6.
