Review: Community “Asian Population Studies”

At long last. Oh how I’ve missed you Community. Without you my Thursdays are so much less hilarious. With “Asian Population Studies” Community really came back swinging. So many of the hanging plot lines returned. Annie’s crush on Rich and/or Jeff, Chang wanting into the group, Shirley’s troubled marriage, and what I’ve been railing about since the Halloween episode: The possibility of Shirley being pregnant with Chang’s demon spawn.

In this episode the group holds a mixer to decide who will be the groups newest recruit. The entire anthropology class is invited except Senior Chang. Annie is rallying support for the cloyingly perfect Rich. The dichotomy between Jeff and Rich is great. Jeff is a jerk who underneath everything is a decent person. One would think that Rich is his opposite, a nice guy who underneath it all is douche, except he’s not. His squeaky clean surface only hides a better soul. In this way Rich is everything Jeff is not, and thus they are natural enemies. When Chang barges in, Jeff is forced to be his advocate otherwise risk the induction of Rich into the group. I would call this a crowning moment of awesome and funny. Turning on his his super lawyer mode Winger actually makes Chang’s psychosis seem positive.
Exploring Shirley’s family was nice. We finally get to see how she ticks s a person. I don’t want to spoil too much but if Jeff speech was a crowning moment of awesome,  we got a nice crowning moment of heartwarming between Shirley and her Ex. It’s good to have you back Community. Let the hits keep on coming!
On a scale of 1 to Epic, (Epic= 10) I’d give it a 7.9
