Review: The Cape “Kosmo”

What a fantastic episode. In Kosmo a dangerous new villain is added to the Cape’s Rouge’s Gallery in the form of Gregor, the man who was supposed to inherit, the woven spider silk cape. This man is a psychotic, murderous, illusionist. He knows how to do everything The Cape does only better.  In a great introduction he escapes from a  Russian prison.  In an equaly fantastic scene reminiscent of Bullseye in Marvel comics, he kills 5 people with playing cards. Without a costume or a strange physical feature Gregor grabs the audiences attention. If he’s a recurring character we might actually have someone on our hands who could give Chess a run for his money as an achnemisis.

My fearsabout Summer Glau as Orwell are all assuaged. She’s no longer just the random hot chick. Orwell is the hot chick with a troubled past. This episode focused on her, and her background while keeping most information about her a mystery. I want to say I called it. She’s Chess’s  daughter. This has the potential to add an interesting dynamic to her character. She’s not just the random girl. Orwell’s developing into a great sidekick, who’s personal stake in the ‘good fight’ is just as important as the hero’s.

I love the circus folk in this story. They add such a funny angle to the cast of characters. In most comic books, carnivals are portrayed twisted frightening place. All innocence in corrupted into something vile usually the home base for the Joker. In this the circus is the hero’s safe place. It is a realm where innocence thrives even if its run by bank robbers. Faraday has embraced the childish concept of a superhero, it makes sense he would run to a place where a child would be filled with wonder.

My biggest complaint is why hasn’t Faraday communicated with his wife? If I were in his scenario the first person I’d want to know i was alive and well, and … not guilty of being a criminal mastermind would be my wife. She’s an attorney she could help prove his innocence. If nothing else I’d want her to know I was alive to relieve her stress, and make sure she doesn’t start dating someone else.
On a scale of 1 to Epic, (Epic= 10) I’d give it a 7.2
