Fringe: Where in the Universe Is Peter Bishop?

With Fringe’s season premier coming up this Friday, I figured it was a good time to re visit the season finale. In one of craziest sci fi cliffhangers, Peter Bishop created a bridge between the two universes and proceeded to wipe himself out of history. How is this possible? What could happen next? Where is Peter Bishop?

My favorite theory is that Peter was created by Walter in the future. To send his son backward in time he would first need a body to jump into, following the rule you can’t go back to when you don’t exist. To do so perhaps Elizabeth Bishop was artificially inseminated in some capacity by future Walter with an embryo of Peter. The. Bishops would have assumed he was just their normal  child. Once Peter created a situation where the world wouldn’t end he would no longer be needed thus sacrificing his own existence. It follows a bit of Christian symbolism. Walter is the father  Peter is the son. Peters destiny is to save the world, and the machine is where he’s crucified. But this isn’t his end, hell be resurrected some how. How do I know this? Well, Joshua Jackson has signed on for another season. Plus there is the enormous hanging plot line around Peter’s son with Bolivia.

Perhaps Olivia will remember Peter. She is special after all. Her mind has been enhanced with Cortexiphan, it has been shown that emotional duress can cause Cortexiphan patients to use uncanny abilities. Whats causes more duress than losing the love of your life. Maybe the power of love will allow Olivia to solve the paradox. At very least maybe she’ll know something is wrong.Another less exciting option is that Walter will discover a way to resurrect William bell with soul magnets. Because his mind or essence is someplace.outside of space and time he’ll remember Peter even without the change in history.

In either situation I’m not expecting immediate payoff. J.J. Abrams if notorious for dragging out his mysterious plot lines. Fringe has alot going for it this season. There are so many places they can take the story. I can’t wait!
