Review: Supernatural “Meet the New Boss”

I watch Supernatural, and I wonder how much the Winchester Boys can take. For every friend they make, they loose two more. Take down the Yellow Eyed Demon, you have to contend with Lilith. Defeat Lilith face Lucifer. Though some manner of divine luck beat the devil back into hell, one of your closest friends decides to become the next villain. Last season saw Castiel absorb the souls of purgatory and become more powerful than anything we’ve seen in the show before. He proclaims himself the next God.

Initially I was worried that all of Cass’s personality would have been lost, and he’d be the new villain of the next season. Cass is my favorite character, so it would have been shame to see him loose himself to his new powers. It was nice to see that despite having fallen so far Cass still resembles himself. Sure it was terrifying to see him in a field of slaughtered angels, and his punishments for the hypocrites and blasphemers was excessive but  at the same time he healed lepers and fed the hungry. I was also glad to see Death summoned to confront Castiel. Despite his rhetoric that humans are bacteria, he goes easy on the Winchesters and Bobby. He even helps them slightly. Maybe he likes them. On top of all that Castiel is being driven mad and destroyed by whats inside him. Having exhausted the Judeo-Christian and pagan mythologies, Supernatural is now turning to H.P. Lovecraft. Apparently God created leviathians or old ones before he created angels and humans. They were so hungry they threatened to devour the universe. They were locked in Purgatory to protect creation. Bam! We now have our new villains. For me Supernatural will have always ended with Sam casting Lucifer into hell, but as far as continuation goes this one works. I just hope these Old Ones are given an interesting visual. They predate everything we have seen. They need to appear primarily alien. This season seems like its off to a good start so far.

On a scale of 1 to Epic (Epic =10) Supernatural gets a 7.7
